Food from the Hunger Games potluck our friend Linnea held on Friday: Prim’s basil-goat cheese balls, District 11 crescent moon rolls and other assorted breads, including our Capital-style foie gras-stuffed brioche (I say “our” but that was all M. — are you surprised?). Not pictured: “foraged” salads, Katniss’ beloved lamb and prune stew, and many desserts.

Can I tell you something? I was straight-up first in line at the Hunger Games, 4:20 pm, Regal Union Square, Saturday, March 24.

First in coolness, I say.

I had been planning to show up at 3:15/3:30 but then a conversation with Linnea on Friday made me wonder. Those Hunger Games kids are rabid! Who knows what time they’d be showing up and hells no would I be sitting front row. (Besides, I was staking out a spot for a big group of friends. They were relying on me! I will not let my District down!)

I woke up Saturday nervous. I worked out, joined M. for bloodies and my favorite yogurt dish at Saxon & Parole (saving room for popcorn and Reese’s Pieces, of course) — but even Aquavit failed to chill me out, so at 2:30 I announced we were going to the movie theater, dammit. When the ticket-taker took our tickets at about 2:50 he did a double take. Everyone else was there for the earlier shows.

What’s it to you, dude?

First in line, first in coolness.

Needless to say, we got the best seats in the house: center square of the Tic Tac Toe board, right at the break in seats, with miles of leg room.

My shining moment.

(Let’s never speak of this again.)

Next Friday, I’m attending a Hunger Games Potluck hosted by a food writer (whatever, you know you’re jealous). M. and I were thinking of making District 4’s salty seaweed bread. However … these delicate Seaweed Cookies may be a nice variation.

Recipes that satisfy your ‘Hunger Games’ hunger

The host of tomorrow night’s Hunger Games potluck shared this article, which features recipes ranging from Prim’s basil-wrapped goat cheese balls to Rue and Katniss’s apple-smoked groosling.

As for M. and me, we’re thinking foie gras-stuffed pastry. ‘Cause we Capital like that.
